The saying “Time flies when you are having fun” could not be more true when I realise that 20 years ago I started TreasuryONE. I started with the knowledge that I could negotiate better exchange rates, a blind belief in my ability to work hard, the desire to unlock value for clients and with a few Rands in my bank account from my Sasol pension fund, the dream was born.

My folks will tell you that I had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. I started a shop on our farm that supplied groceries, clothes and fresh bread to the local community at the tender age of 14. To pay for the cost of the fuel I never returned with an empty bakkie, but loaded the bakkie full of wood to sell in Brits. I was rewarded for my hard work and came second in the “Jong winsmaker van die Jaar” competition winning R750 from Nedbank in 1988.

But I did not build TreasuryONE on my own. Joining me each day in the office are 55 dedicated employees that share a passion for treasury and technology.  But you can’t be complacent in this business; I continuously ask my team “What value are you unlocking for our clients?” – that is my mantra and focus – and so we continue to implement world-class treasury technology and add new solutions to our service offerings like Robotic Process Automation, Corporate Payment Factories and Supply Chain Finance Solutions to name a few.

The TreasuryONE Team

TreasuryONE, however, would not exist without the loyal support of our clients. I am proud to say that we have many client relationships that span from our early days – Afgri as our first Treasury Management System implementation to our newest three clients Mr Price, AECI and KAP. During these strange times of COVID-19, I am proud to say we have continued during lockdown without any interruption to be more than just a service provider, but also a powerful business partner to our clients

For me, on a personal level, I view lockdown and the restrictions it has placed on our lives as a difficult and challenging stage in the Dakar rally. You have to fight as hard as you can, even when it looks impossible; otherwise, the race is over, and I watch my 2018 Dakar participation video on a personal level for inspiration!

TreasuryONE will continue to do what we do best,  to innovate, to unlock value, to be an employer of choice and to operate as a world-class business. Thank you for your support and we are looking forward to the next 20 years!
